STAYING ON TOP……IF IT DOESN’T CHALLENGE YOU IT WON’T CHANGE YOU

On the 20TH January 2018 approximately 40 – SA umpires (including some of our top SA .A umpires), as well as, all The NSA regional Umpire Conveners, were given the opportunity to learn from THE BEST, namely:-

ANNIE KLOPPERS – ITP and NSA Director of Umpires.

AND

ANSO KEMP – Top International Umpire and WC Convener of Umpires.

Annie and Anso Presented an outstanding “Advanced Umpires Practical Workshop” held in Stellenbosch.

Covering a range of important topics, including The Whole package; The role of the third Umpire; Mentoring; rules; scenarios; protocol; grading; what works for you. We were shown correct positioning, understanding the advantage call, we worked on scenarios, eye exercises, and that’s just to name a few.

Eugene Oppelt, a well known and successful sports Psychologist, delivered a memorable presentation on “Staying on Top”, focusing on the highs and lows of keeping our umpiring at a high standard, “plan your freshness”. To serve others you first have to serve yourself! And delivering an amazing and thought provoking question…… WHY?? Why do we do it? (As we all know umpiring is not for the faint hearted!!)

Our newly elected NSA president Cecilia Molokwane and Vice President Christine du Preez, spent most of the day with us. Cecilia delivered an energized and humorous motivational speech and also mentioned her focus on “Taking netball back to the people”.

All in All an amazing day!

What FANTASTIC leaders we now have in NSA, I am humbled and thankful.

Thank you Annie and Anso, for constantly “paying it forward”, your enthusiasm, hard work and love for netball inspires me daily to strive to be “The whole package”.

And in the words of Francois Nel (SA.A Umpire- Western Cape)

Why do we do it?  –  “TO IMPROVE PEOPLES ABILITY TO LIVE LIFE AFFECTIVELY”.!!!
