Throw In:  no 2  – Only when everyone is ON Court.

Requirements for Taking a Throw In

The player taking the Throw In, must ensure that all other players are on the court before releasing the ball.

**That include:  your team members and your opponents.

Action if the player takes the Throw In before everyone is back on court…….?

Throw In to the opposing team where the infringement took place.

Whistle – Umpire Calls:  Not everyone on court. Throw In (and the teams name)

The umpire move then to the attacking side of the Throw In (where possible)

What is important for the umpire is to be on the lookout for:

  1. A player who goes out of court to retrieve a ball or to take a throw in must be allowed back on the court at the point where the player left the court or took the throw in. Any opponent attempting to prevent the player from re-entering the court is penalised. (If you look at the video clip – the player decided to go back on court far from where she left the court – now the defending player can prevent her from entering the court – as long as the defender is ON court.)

2.  A player, deliberately wasting time to get back on court.

Reason why a player do that?  Trying to get the player taking the Throw In to pass the ball before he/she is back on court.

If this happen the player intentionally delaying the Throw In can be penalized under Rule:  13.2.1 Unfair Play

(i) Delaying Play

Sanction: Penalty pass which is advanced (unless the non-infringing team is disadvantaged) and the player is cautioned.

  1. The sanction may be advanced up to half a third.
  1. The infringer stands out of play at the new position. If this is in an offside area the infringer moves to the edge of this area.

You've got to look out for yourself. No one is doing it for you ...
