Offside: Retrieving a ball in an offside area
Stay in your area of play!
- A player is offside when the player enters a court area not designated for that player’s playing position. This applies whether the player has contact with the ball or not.
- A player may NOT go into an offside area to retrieve a ball for a free pass or a penalty pass.
SCENARIO:
If the GS or GA in the circle don’t hand over the ball – do the umpire hold time so the ball can go outside to the WA or C?
“Look at the level of play, but if it’s your top teams.”
NO – It is the responsibility of the GS and GA to hand over the ball.
They can be penalized for Delaying the Penalty. (Rule 13.2.1 – (i))
Closest goal shooter to the ball is penalized.
Sanction: Penalty pass outside the goal circle which is advanced and the player is cautioned.
